Why Imago Dei?
Before material, technique, scale, style, or ornament comes the end toward which the work is ordered. At Imago Dei, we believe the artist does not begin with an empty world. Creation precedes us. We encounter form, proportion, light, material, nature, and meaning already worthy of attention.
The work of the artist begins by learning to see.
Through observation, study, imagination, disciplined practice, and prayer,
we seek to bring works into being that participate in truth, goodness, and beauty.

THE ATELIER
Fine Art & Sacred Art
The Atelier is devoted to original works of drawing, painting, and sculpture formed through patient study and traditional craftsmanship.
Here, observation precedes invention and mastery is pursued through habit: studying anatomy, proportion, light, material, historical methods, and the great artistic traditions that came before us.
Sacred works are approached not merely as objects of decoration, but as works intended to assist contemplation and direct the imagination toward what is higher.

The Studio carries the same principles of craftsmanship into objects meant to be lived with, used, given, and passed on.
Journals, prints, cards, devotional objects, seasonal collections, and other works of applied art are designed with the same attention to proportion, material, symbolism, and purpose that governs the Atelier.
Beauty should not be confined to galleries.
THE PHILOSOPHY
Integritas
Wholeness. A work should possess integrity. Nothing essential should be absent, and nothing should remain merely because the artist is unwilling to remove it.
Proportio
Proportion. Parts exist in relationship. Form, scale, rhythm, composition, color, and detail must be ordered toward the good of the whole.
Claritas
Clarity. The work should reveal rather than obscure. Through visible form, art can make something of the invisible more readily contemplated.
Why is this being made?
Because beauty is worth seeking.
Because craftsmanship is worth preserving.
Because what we make can direct attention beyond itself.
